Seattle International Dance Festival Winter Mini Fest

The Sixth Annual Seattle International Dance Festival (SIDF) Winter Mini Fest is pleased to present four public performances February 25 to March 4, 2023, in conjunction with a ten-day residency between Seattle-based Khambatta Dance Company (KDC) and the German-based Tchekpo Dance Company (TDC). TDC is an international troupe combining African, Italian and German artists. Highlighting spontaneity, the SIDF Mini Fest features premieres by each company and work created collaboratively in a few days’ time between artists hailing from three continents. It brings contemporary dance to Seattle’s doorstep by presenting four emotionally resonant performances over two weekends. General Admission tickets are $25. Student tickets are $18. It mixes spoken word, music and athletic movement, while contrasting short sided human preoccupations against the gravity of the death/rebirth cycle. KDC also collaborates with Tchekpo Dance Company, to create a new piece, born of artistic inspiration and spawned in just a few days’ time. The work will be titled just before the show. Khambatta Dance Company has called Seattle, WA its home since relocating from New York City in 2001. KDC has created over 45 works ranging from site-specific pieces to staged, full-length productions. KDC conducts international residencies and exchanges, regularly tours nationally and abroad, and in 2006 founded the Seattle International Dance Festival. It is dedicated to producing and presenting emotionally resonant work, encouraging constructive self-reflection through meaningful, high-quality artistry, and promoting the role dance can play in shaping our personal and social understanding in an intercultural context. Tchekpo Dance Company is a German-based group currently comprised of international artists from Africa, Italy, and Germany. The company was founded in 1991 by Tchekpo Dan Agbetou in Angers, France. Four years later, the dancer, choreographer, and artistic director continued his work in Germany. The company is dynamic, engaging dancers from around the world for each project. Tchekpo Dan Agbetou, invites multidisciplinary artists from Europe, Africa, Asia, and America to work on new projects combining a number of artistic influences. Tchekpo Dance Company performs in renowned institutions, frequenting international dance festivals in Europe, Africa and the USA. Today, the company is part of the global dance project DansArt Tanznetworks, an institution for contemporary dance with its own theater and numerous training and continuing education programs for professional dancers and amateurs. DansArt Tanznetworks maintains a host of companies within its network which it invites to its various international dance festivals and to whom it offers artists in residence programs. # #
