Earth Day Festival

The Barrier Island Parks Society (BIPS) invites the community to join in the celebration of Earth Day at the annual Earth Day Festival on Sunday, April 21, from 11am to 4pm. This year's event will take place at Buchans Park, conveniently located next to Buchans Airport on Old Englewood Rd in Englewood. The Earth Day Festival promises a day filled with engaging activities and entertainment for all ages. Attendees can look forward to participating in eco-friendly crafts, educational programs, and informative demonstrations aimed at promoting environmental awareness and sustainability. Live music, health-conscious food options, raffles, and plant sales will also be available, ensuring there is something for everyone to enjoy. Bonnie Hays, a seasoned veteran of the music industry, has been a fixture since her teenage years, and now in her 60s, her passion for music remains as vibrant as ever. Known for her band 11:11, which garnered acclaim in the NJ-NY-PA circuit, Bonnie's talent has reached far and wide. With radio play in Orange County, NY, live performances on Pennsylvania stations, and appearances at Freedom Festivals and Benefit concerts, Bonnie has left an indelible mark on the music scene. Now based in Florida, the Bonnie Hays Band is undergoing a metamorphosis, reigniting interest and bringing forth a new era of creativity. Alongside her is Troy Milburn, a stalwart in both analog and digital realms since the early 1980s. Preferring the sanctuary of the compro studio to the live stage, Troy's dedication lies in crafting original music. Together, their mission transcends mere performance; they aim to honor musical pioneers through powerful renditions while championing original compositions. Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, they remain committed to fostering a community of artists, evident in their plans to feature various artists to perform 15-30 minute sets throughout the day. With each note, Bonnie Hays and Troy Milburn continue to leave an indelible imprint on the musical landscape, proving that age is no barrier to creativity and passion. Lisa Romain-Brown, owner of The Open Studio Gardens community, embodies the ethos of health, harmony, and creativity. As an integral part of Englewood Earth Day, she brings her passion for organic living and holistic wellness to the forefront. Amidst the lush surroundings of the food forest and event space, Lisa showcases a diverse array of organically grown fruits and vegetables, sourced directly from the garden and sold at the One Stop Co-op shop. With a dedication to fresh and nutritious foods, she crafts delectable offerings such as hot dinners on Tuesdays and homemade hummus and guacamole. Lisa also champions natural remedies like Seamoss and water Kefir, as well as local honey for allergies. At the heart of her mission lies a belief in the transformative power of food and relaxation, accentuated by music and arts. At Englewood Earth Day, visitors can immerse themselves in the vibrant energy of The Open Studio Gardens, experiencing a harmonious blend of culinary delights, artistic expression, and holistic wellness curated by Lisa and her dedicated team; which includes a stain glass artists. "We are thrilled to once again host the Earth Day Festival and provide the community with an opportunity to come together and celebrate our planet," said Sharon McKenzie, Executive Director at BIPS. "This event is not only a fun-filled day for families but also serves as a platform to inspire individuals to make positive changes for the environment." Admission to the Earth Day Festival is free, thanks to the generous support of local Englewoodians and sponsors. The event aims to foster a sense of community while promoting environmental stewardship and conservation efforts.
