Just like the genius pieces that surrounded her in her recent show at Art Avenue (accompanied by Alexander Pokidchenko), Elena Ostrovsky’s creativity is unhindered. Her concert repertoire is an eclectic blend of traditional and new opera, Baroque, Jazz, parlor music, American Songbook, and Russian Romance period, bound by the common thread of timelessness. Elena’s execution is completely believable as she symbolically steps into each selection and costumes herself in each song. And speaking of costumes… Elena’s sensibility for fashion is almost as well-curated as her programme. Many artists can sing. Many singers have good stage presence. But Elena stands out for her relatability – her vulnerability – and the way she surrenders to the music and the process. Her audience is right there with her and everyone feels like they are in the front row center seat. Elena’s concerts really harken back to the days of soirees and parlour meetings – a Salon Revival where high art, high fashion, and high intellect collide into a truly remarkable experience!
Elena's work represents an intense palette ranging from the most classical and traditional to the most experiential and avant garde; exploring themes of vices, love, moral contemplation, life and death, anguish, and triumph. The breadth of her repertoire gives her the unique advantage of reaching a diverse audience.
