When reading Betty Edwards about the left and right brain in learning to draw, I bumped into a psychiatrist Iain Mc Gilchrist who has his own take on the subject. The differing world views of the right and left brain have, according to the author, shaped Western culture since the time of the ancient Greek philosopher Plato. In my students I have observed the conflict while drawing an object from left brain acknowledgment to right brain capability to draw whatever they want. The process is fascinating even though not scientifically accepted.
