ACE - Nature & Travel Photography

Let’s explore the bounty of Florida’s flora and fauna as we learn how to get the most out of our nature photography. We will go over what gear best suits each particular situation, as well as how to get the most out of lower-budget solutions while still producing high quality images. We will practice patience and develop a keen eye for observation as well as a respect for our local environment. Taking photographs while traveling requires you to think about several aspects of life that you don’t have to pay attention to when you’re photographing around your hometown. You need to know what to pack, how to pack it, how to think about security, how to back up your photographs, local culture (ethics, legalities, customs, taboos), what to do when you need help, travel insurance (remember, there’s no Medicare outside the U.S.), using guides (fixers), how to choose themes/projects, relations with a non-photographing significant other, and much more. The class will improve the student’s travel photography in four ways: 1) Going local by using apps to find local experiences, 2) Researching the local culture and etiquette, 3) Developing a travel photography theme, 4) Using HDR, panorama, Polarizing filter, and more This class will be a mix of in-the-classroom as well as in-the-field. Prerequisites: Photography 1 and 2 or equivalent. A DSLR or mirrorless camera is recommended for this class, but is not required.
