UCSC Jazz Ensembles, directed by Charles Hamilton, present a double-header matinee concert, "Mambo!", featuring guest artist / master percussionist John Santos.
The UCSC Small Jazz Ensembles open the program, featuring five combos, in varying styles, including vocalists. After a brief intermission, the UCSC Big Band will feature Classic Latin Jazz, ranging from Dizzy Gillespie—whose hit “Manteca” brought Latin Jazz to the rest of the world—to Bay Area legend and master percussionist, John Santos, whose "SF Bay," has been arranged especially for the UCSC Jazz Big Band.
