Letter to the Editor Writing Workshop
Jump on the unprecedented opportunity to influence how the Bay Area handles sea level rise! By the end of 2024, the Bay Conservation and Development Commission (BCDC) will release their guidelines for regional action against sea level rise. The Bay Alive campaign needs your help ensuring that our natural infrastructure and vulnerable communities are protected. Join our new Letter to the Editor writing group, where you will be trained and equipped with all the resources you need to use the power of your words to influence change in our communities.
At the end of 2023, California passed a state law, SB 272 or the “Laird Bill,” which dictates all coastal communities must create a sea level rise adaptation plan by 2030. SB272 tasked BCDC with creating guidelines Bay shoreline communities must follow in order for their sea level rise plan to be approved. BCDC is gearing up for the release of their public draft Regional Shoreline Adaptation Plan (RSAP), and will finalize the guidelines by the end of this year.
The release of the first public draft is expected to gain media attention–which provides the perfect opportunity to spread awareness through letters to the editor! By raising awareness of sea level rise impacts and the value and importance of nature-based solutions, you can build public support for a comprehensive, equitable and nature-forward RSAP. We need your help making sure this message is heard–and don’t worry, we’ll give you everything you need to write successful Letters to the Editor.
