As part of the Wildlands Urban Interface (WUI) Research for Resilience: Addressing California’s Climate, Conservation & Housing Crises initiative, the Center for Critical Urban and Environmental Studies, with aligned community grassroots and government organizations, will host a second Housing and Habitat Community Resource Fair in the north coast of WUI designated areas across Santa Cruz county – where the fringes of development reach natural areas.
Together with the Davenport Resource Service Center and the Long Term Recovery Group of Santa Cruz County, the following organizations will be on site: Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), Mountain Community Resources, California Department of Insurance, United Policyholders, Catholic Charities, Community Bridges, FireSafe Council of Santa Cruz County, Resource Conservation District of Santa Cruz County, Recover California, The Trust For Public Land, and the Santa Cruz County Recovery Permit Center.
Fairs accompany our surveying and interviewing people in fire and flood impacted areas to better understand the communities moving to and staying in these areas, including their housing history, affordability pressures, and needs in terms of disaster preparedness, mitigation and recovery. Participants will receive a $20.00 gift card after completing the survey. Come learn about and get help with disaster preparedness, hazard mitigation, recovery from fire and floods, housing resources and tenant rights. Also, free flautas, aguas frescas, strawberries, and pie! Arts & crafts & games for kids!
The first took place July 20th, 2024 at the Boulder Creek Recreation Center, a third fair will be held Fall 2024 in Pajaro in partnership with La Manzana Community Resources.
