Menlo Park Storytelling Festival: Tina Henson
The 8th Annual Menlo Park Storytelling Festival continues with a performance from Tina Henson, sharing Native American Stories and Legends. Best for Ages 6-Adult.
Myth and storytelling have always played an important role in Native American cultures, and the tales can be as varied as the communities themselves. Tina Henson will share enchanting stories from various Native traditions.
About Tina Henson
Tina Henson (Spirit Lake Dakota & Lakota from Rosebud) is the Program Coordinator for the Tri-Valley Native American Center, providing support to about 250 Native American students attending kindergarten through high school in Livermore, Dublin, Pleasanton, and Castro Valley. The youths have access to tutoring and college preparation tools, as well as cultural enrichment opportunities including powwows, arts & crafts, and more from a variety of Native American traditions.
About Storytelling
Storytelling is telling stories--without using a book.
It's an ancient art form that predates libraries, and books, and writing.
It's not necessarily for children!
Traditional-style storytelling creates unique images in the mind of each listener.
According to the National Storytelling Network, "storytelling is the interactive art of using words and actions to reveal the elements and images of a story while encouraging the listener’s imagination. In storytelling, the listener imagines the story.”
