The 8th Annual Menlo Park Storytelling Festival continues with a visit from Roopa Mohan, sharing Tasty Tales from South Asia! Best for Ages 6-Adult.
How about a set of fun stories around FOOD… a personal narrative, folktale, myth and a Tall Tale? Roopa’s storytelling is always delicious.
About Roopa Mohan:
Roopa Mohan trained as a volunteer storyteller and docent for school groups at the Asian Art Museum in San Francisco, where she tells folktales around objects in the museum’s extensive collection. Roopa has expanded her repertoire, and now enjoys sharing personal narratives, tall tales, portrayals, myths and legends she heard growing up in South India. She enjoys engaging her audience and enhancing her stories with Indian dance gestures and movement.
Roopa serves on the Board of the Storytelling Association of California, and is leading a project to bring storytelling to underserved schools.
She is an active member of Asian American Storytellers in Action, contributing to their ongoing project for children and families, celebrating cultural diversity and equality.
Roopa is also a Chautauqua Scholar, who recently debuted her historical character, Kasturba Gandhi, wife of Mahatma Gandhi.
About Storytelling:
Storytelling is telling stories--without using a book.
It's an ancient art form that predates libraries, and books, and writing.
It's not necessarily for children!
Traditional-style storytelling creates unique images in the mind of each listener.
According to the National Storytelling Network, "storytelling is the interactive art of using words and actions to reveal the elements and images of a story while encouraging the listener’s imagination. In storytelling, the listener imagines the story.”
Roopa Mohan's performance is one of five events in the 8th Annual Menlo Park Storytelling Festival, taking place from October 17 - November 17. Join us for more storytelling! Check the schedule for times, locations and appropriate age ranges.
