The Human Costs of Climate Change

Rainforests chopped down. Indigenous Peoples driven off their land to export avocados from Mexico. Extreme heat causing death and misery to factory workers and driving farmers off dried, cracked land in Bangladesh. Massive nickel processing plants in Indonesia making pristine water undrinkable and air unbreathable in order to make batteries for electric vehicles. Join the Commonwealth Club World Affairs Peninsula Chapter and the Los Altos Library as Brad Adams discusses critical issues at the intersection of climate change and human rights, and proposes ideas about how to solve them. Brad Adams created Climate Rights International in 2023 and serves as its Executive Director. For twenty years prior, from 2002-2022, Brad was the Executive Director of the Asia division at Human Rights Watch, overseeing investigations, advocacy and media work in twenty countries including China, India, Indonesia, Philippines, Vietnam, Myanmar, Japan, and North Korea, and building deep expertise about the challenges of human rights compounded by behaviors that contribute to climate change. * This program is free and pre-registration is not required. However, the maximum capacity is 100, so arrive early to ensure a seat. Doors open at 6:30 PM and the program runs from 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM. Face coverings are strongly recommended while inside.
