Digital Conflict Through the Lens of National Security


Join us to hear Dr. Herbert Lin describe the landscape of digital security as a national security issue, addressing both offensive operations in cyberspace and information/influence operations. He will discuss critical issues such as the use of computer hacking and "mind-hacking" as instruments of national policy. Herbert Lin is a Senior Research Scholar and Hank J. Holland Fellow at Stanford University. He is also Chief Scientist, Emeritus for the Computer Science and Telecommunications Board, National Research Council (NRC) of the National Academies and a member of the Science and Security Board of the Bulletin of Atomic Scientists. In 2016, he served on President Obama’s Commission on Enhancing National Cybersecurity. Prior to his NRC service, Dr. Lin was a professional staff member and staff scientist for the House Armed Services Committee (1986-1990). He received his doctorate in physics from MIT. * This program is free and pre-registration is not required. However, the maximum capacity is 100, so arrive early to ensure a seat. Doors open at 6:30 PM and the program runs from 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM. Face coverings are strongly recommended while inside.
