Fruit Tree Grafting
Learn to graft fruit trees and go home with one! Join Sharon Zo for this hands-on workshop at the UCSC Hay Barn. Sharon will cover the basics of rootstocks and scion selection, the importance of a sharp, quality grafting knife, safe use of such a knife, timing, and how to put the stock & scion together for best success with your graft. She’ll demonstrate how to cleft graft and if there's time, a whip & tongue graft. Students will then cleft-graft an apple tree to take home on rootstock with a selection of scions of uncommon variety from the Chadwick Garden for your new tree.
If you are a beginner or have attempted to graft but still feel uncomfortable, this is the workshop for you. There will be one-on-one mentoring and personal attention.
