OLLI at UCSC Hosts Musicologist Leta Miller
Santa Cruz, CA - The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) invites the public to an in-person presentation from 10:00 to noon Sunday, March 17, at the Colleges Nine/ Lewis Multipurpose Room, UC Santa Cruz.
Join us for a social hour followed by a presentation entitled “Organized Labor and the Black Musician: A Fight for Equality”. For most of the 20th century, the American Federation of Musicians maintained segregated union locals in more than 50 cities. These dual locals arose, surprisingly, at the request of Black musicians themselves. Miller will explain why Black musicians favored segregation and the complications that decision entailed.
OLLI at UCSC is a community of adults from diverse educational, occupational and geographic backgrounds who are devoted to the pursuit of learning.
