Get Prepared for Emergeny Evacuations
The San Lorenzo Valley and Santa Cruz Mountains neighborhoods are not unfamiliar with evacuation:
The August 2020 CZU Fire caused a widespread evacuation of San Lorenzo Valley.
Post-fire "Debris Flow" risk led to evacuation advisories in several SLV zones in the winter of 2020-2021.
Flooding in Felton Grove neighborhood in January and March 2023 was due significant rainfall and rising level of the San Lorenzo River.
Invited speakers include:
Santa Cruz County OR3 (Office of Response, Recovery & Resilience) will help us understand the key elements of an evacuation plan and the coordination of multiple agencies;
County Sheriff's Office will describe how evacuation is carried out; and explain the terms Advisory, Warning, Order, and Shelter in Place.
Members of Equine Evac and ARES will discuss how large animals are taken out of harm's way.
Boulder Creek CERT will demonstrate packing go-bags.
Q&A period to address local concerns and questions.
Pick up informational handouts and preparation guides.
This meeting is open to the public and will be Hybrid, on Zoom and in person.
Monday May 13th, 6:30pm-8:30pm.
The location is the Boulder Creek Recreation Hall, in downtown Boulder Creek behind the Fire Station.
Parking is available in the general downtown Boulder Creek area.
Pizza and raw veggies, coffee and water will be served.
