Community Drumming w/ Jim Greiner At The Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk For 2024 Wharf To Wharf Race
Community Drumming Session Near the Starting Line Of The 2024 Wharf To Wharf Race! This footrace has raised millions of dollars over the decades for area youth athletic programs. I've been thrilled to have conducted this session at the same location for over 30 years!
Who: Anyone, at any level of percussion experience (including none at all!) with any kind of drum or hand percussion instrument. I will provide Maracas (easy-to-play shakers) to anyone who does not bring an instrument.
What: I will conduct the basic, foundation rhythm (no soloing!} and give quick and easy tips to beginners. We will play for about 30 minutes from the start of the race, until the final runner/walker passes us after starting.
When: Sunday, July 28, 2024. The race starts at 8:30am.
Where: We'll be on the corner of Beach & Third Streets, across from the Logger's Revenge ride. The race goes from the Santa Cruz Wharf to the Capitola Wharf.
Why: To give the runners a rhythmic energy-boost as they begin the race, and to create a community celebration groove!

Hugely Important Details: the streets around the Boardwalk will be closed to vehicles at around 7:45am, so arrive early! I will be at our location by 7:15am, so feel free to drop off your instruments and park if you don't want to carry them from your vehicle.
Parking is very limited so carpool, if possible! Watch out for runners warming up in the area! Give yourself lots of extra time!
