This summer marks a momentous occasion for Music@Menlo: the final festival under the Artistic Directorship of David Finckel and Wu Han. Tickets are now on sale for Redux, a celebratory exploration of chamber music which revisits themes from David and Wu Han's 24 years of leadership.
As Music@Menlo entered its second decade, Johann Sebastian Bach became the ideal point of departure. By bringing Baroque music to its highest peak, Bach created a legacy that has inspired composers for centuries. This From Bach program traces that influence through works by Haydn, Mendelssohn, and Brahms, each drawing on Bach’s mastery of counterpoint and fugue. Completing the journey, John Corigliano’s poignant Fancy on a Bach Air pays tribute to Bach’s revolutionary contributions to the cello and its emergence as a solo instrument.
