“Unique Perspectives” by Kaaren Marquez

Viewpoints Gallery is thrilled to present “Unique Perspectives,” a breathtaking new collection of oil paintings by Mountain View artist Kaaren Marquez. In this impressive collection, Kaaren reimagines conventional landscapes by presenting a fascinating and fresh new view of the natural world. In the past year, Kaaren traveled locally around the Bay Area and internationally, through Italy and Norway. Inspired by the scenic mountains, lakes, rivers, and harbors from her travels, Kaaren returned to her studio with an exciting new perspective that ventured far beyond the traditional. The result is a fabulous, eye catching new collection that invites viewers to see the world in bold and beautiful new ways. Inspired by Cubism, Kaaren uses distorted perspectives, exaggerated forms and curvilinear organic shapes to depict whimsical landscapes infused with joyful color and energy. In each of her stunning new works, Kaaren gives viewers the experience of moving through a landscape both physically, by combining views from multiple angles, and visually, by capturing how the eye takes in an entire vista. “My eye doesn’t just take a snapshot of a view but wanders from point to point in a variety of sweeps, sensing connections between glances; creating new shapes in my mind as I absorb the scene,” explains Kaaren. Her mastery of oil painting is evident in her signature expressive brushwork, which adds texture and spontaneity to each piece. Working out of her home studio, Kaaren has been painting professionally for the past fifteen years. She graduated from Stanford and pursued a successful engineering career with HP and Agilent before embarking on her art career. Her award winning work has been juried into many local, national, and international shows, including the Triton Museum of Art in Santa Clara, the Pacific Art League in Palo Alto, and the New Museum in Los Gatos. After initially working in watercolors, Kaaren now primarily paints in oils, where her strong design and composition skills enhance her creativity. Her work is currently available at Viewpoints Gallery in Los Altos, Gallery 24 in Los Gatos and Lisa Lisa Hair Salon in Los Altos.
