“Conversations with the Earth” paintings by Kathleen Mitchell

Viewpoints Gallery is excited to announce our March exhibition featuring gorgeous new works by artist Kathleen Mitchell. In her latest collection, "Conversations with the Earth," Kathleen’s stunning new paintings act as brilliant portals that reveal vibrant natural worlds. Her mastery of color is evident and each piece vibrates with multiple layers of color that shimmer against more muted earth tones. Her signature style includes breathtaking painterly marks that give viewers a sense of the painting process and brings a fresh vitality to every piece. Rather than simply imitating reality in her work, Kathleen strives to capture the raw, dynamic beauty and mood of her subjects in the natural world. An intuitive painter by nature, Kathleen often loses herself in the work, allowing her paintings to speak to her and guide her process. She eloquently explains her painting process, stating, “The juxtaposition of shapes, interesting textures and unexpected color combinations brings me closer to finding the essence of what I see. Exuberant colors, painterly marks and layered textures build the emotions and moods that become the painting’s core. It is said that the earth has a language of its own waiting to be understood. I am hoping to learn it.” Kathleen has learned the earth’s language and translates it beautifully into this stunning and profound new collection. Kathleen has been painting and drawing all her life. Growing up in Santa Clara Valley before it became Silicon Valley has provided her with a historical reference of orchards and open spaces as well as insights into our current local landscape. She has a master’s degree in painting and drawing and her work has garnered numerous awards. She currently is exhibiting at Viewpoints Gallery and at Studio Gallery in San Francisco.
