David Fullarton’s seventh solo show at the Compound Gallery is his first to feature work created since he plummeted headlong into his sixth decade as a human being, a milestone that helped shape this show’s theme as “a wry reminder that no matter how bad things may seem, they can always get far worse.” Fullarton also continues to playfully dissect the absurdity of our modern malaise. Deploying his trademark dark humor and ruthless wit, his work laughs in the face of looming catastrophe and ridicules the disappointing reality of diminished contemporary existence. “It’s all about hopelessness, regret, despair and disappointment, but in a fun way,” Fullarton added.
