Pacifica's HAMS are ready again to prove they are prepared to cope with emergencies by providing communication with the outside world.
On June 28th, 2025, the Coastside Amateur Radio Club of Pacifica will be participating in the yearly nationwide ARRL Field Day exercise. Starting Saturday morning and ending Saturday evening, Amateur Radio operators (often called ham radio operators or hams) will be participating in this exercise. It is an around-the-clock competition using amateur radio equipment available for emergency communications. Each year in June, the Amateur Radio Relay League sponsors a North America-wide Amateur Radio Field Day Exercise. In this exercise, hams are trying to contact as many other hams as possible in the USA and Canada. The purpose of the exercise is to test the responsiveness of amateur radio operators and their equipment for emergencies.
The Coastside Amateur Radio Club will be setting up their emergency equipment starting about 8:00 AM Saturday and will be clear of the site by 8:00 PM the same day. There will be a few operating stations complete with major portable antennas that will be erected. Some of these stations will be capable of reaching all U.S. and Canadian stations as well as around the world. Others will be used mostly for communications within a 100-to-200-mile radius. Communications will be by radio transmissions using voice, morse code and computer packet mode.
Come on out and get on the air!
