Penn State Abington Presents at Rydal Park Social Death: The Effects of Being Excluded and Ignored on Who We Are and How We Perceive Others (1:30 pm), presented by Dr. Michael Bernstein, Assistant Professor of Psychology, who was recently awarded a National Science Foundation grant. Social belonging is an essential human need. Dr. Bernstein, who has been teaching at Penn State Abington since 2010, will explain how important social ties are to our mental and physical health, the consequences of when we are excluded from our groups, and how being excluded makes us hyper-sensitive to individuating information about people, essentially making us 'person experts.'
