Arts Residency Opening Show at Port Labs!

The Port Labs Artist's Residency Program provides space in downtown Oakland for a small cohort of dedicated working creatives to explore multimedia visual art in alignment with the missions/values of the greater Port Labs Community. Come view their creations! For our Opening Show, our first cohort of Artists in Residence–Ecco Pierce, Krystal Harfert, Yaminah Abdur-Rahim, and Zach Fish– have hung work that inspired us to select them as participants in the program. In addition to showing their work, we’ll host a brief fireside chat with our artists about their work and the role of makerspaces in the Bay Area. All proceeds from ticket sales will go towards residency stipends for our Artists. AGENDA 6:30PM - Doors Open 7:00PM - Welcome Remarks! 7:10PM - Meet the Artists! - Fireside Chat 7:45PM - Mix and Mingle 8:30PM - End of Event ABOUT OUR ARTISTS ECCO PIERCE Ecco is a multidisciplinary artist working primarily in new media and manufacturing processes. With a BFA, a storied career in makerspace education, engineering facilities, and hardware startups from construction to aerospace, she endeavors to use the tools and materials reserved for mankind's more scientific ambitions for something more playful, whimsical, and approachable to the layman. You will find her portfolio as eclectic as her CV-  with kinetic costumes, children's illustrations, 3doodled insects, flame powered zoetropes, art cars, animation, and more. She aspires to become a youtube content creator, teaching people how to design, make, and imagine whatever their heart desires. KRYSTAL HARFERT Krystal is a multi-medium artist with experience as a performer/choreographer, costume designer, photographer, cinematographer, fiber artist, non-profit arts administrator, and educator of dance, art, and arts administration. Krystal resides In Oakland, California, where they have spent over a decade in nonprofit arts and movement education.  YAMINAH ABDUR-RAHIM Yaminah Abdur-Rahim is a multidisciplinary artist and researcher from Oakland, CA. She works primarily in video, performance and sculpture. She began in grassroots artist spaces, exhibiting in Bay Area galleries such as Galeria de la Raza (San Francisco) and Omiiroo Gallery (Oakland). She holds an MFA in Visual Arts and Culture from Mills College, Oakland. She has received awards and fellowships from the San Francisco Public Library, Still Here San Francisco, Radar Productions and the Kearny Street Workshop.  ZACH FISH Zach Fish is an artist across multiple mediums. Oakland born, they are most well known for their work in interactive entertainment, where they combine cutting edge technologies with old-school theatrical know-how to craft immersive experiences that confound and delight the senses. Their sculptural work focuses on repurposing found materials to create objects of renewed value and unified visual aesthetic. They believe that art inherently adds value to its component materials, and thus the value of art is the highest when using materials that have been deemed valueless.  They believe that, with diligent attention and clear discernment, powerful statements can be made with any material. Join us on Wednesday, July 31!
