She has taught Communication Studies for 28 years at several 4-year universities and colleges. One of her greatest joys at Skyline College is coordinating the Women's Mentorship and Leadership Academy (WMLA). The mission of Skyline College's WMLA is empowering and transforming women at the college to achieve personal and professional growth. Throughout her classes and programs, Professor Powell engages her students in ways that characterize culturally sensitive pedagogy that is validating, inclusive, empowering, transformative and humanistic.
