Lee Panich, Santa Clara University anthropology professor, will discuss recent archaeological investigations at Spanish missions and related sites, including the Sanchez Adobe. Through excavations within the Native rancherías associated with Mission Santa Clara and Mission San José—as well as recent research at the Asistencia de San Pedro y San Pablo (the Sanchez Adobe) —archaeologists are filling in the gaps in the documentary record to reveal the persistence of Indigenous cultural practices. Panich will discuss findings that offer new perspectives into the lives of Native Californians during the colonial period.
