The Griots of Oakland: 10th Anniversary Presented by Kingmakers of Oakland
Join Kingmakers of Oakland on March 23 at 6 pm for a celebration of Oakland storytelling, including a photo exhibit curated for one night only and an immersive, augmented reality documentary event.
Ten years ago, a group of Oakland leaders came together to find innovative ways to shed light on the experiences of African American male youth throughout Alameda County. These leaders formed a team of story gatherers – the Griots of Oakland. This group of young men would not only collect stories for a book of oral histories, but also become a living repository for their culture.
Join us to hear their story. Don’t miss what will be an unforgettable night of art, culture, and community.
