Susan Carkeek: Dirt, Plant, Sky
M Stark Gallery presents a solo exhibition by Half Moon Bay artist Susan Carkeek: "Dirt Plant Sky" (acrylic and mixed media on canvas).
September 7 – October 27, 2024. Join us at the opening reception for the artist on Sunday, September 8, from 1-4. This event is free and open to the public.
Hardy backyard flowers, fungi, plants, and trees thrive in their intricately layered and surprisingly multi-colored topsoil. Shown as a cross-section, Carkeek’s work is focused on the most recent layer of dirt-- ours-- recently laid down during the Anthropocene Era, the current period of time during which human activities have impacted the environment enough to constitute a distinct geological change.
Carkeek received her BA in art with honors from the University of Montana, Missoula. She lives and works in Half Moon Bay, California.
