Witness the powerful debut of Raíces y Voces: Canciones de Lucha y Esperanza, a bilingual music and storytelling performance from immigrant domestic workers, day laborers, and cultural workers that continues the legacy of Our Work, Our Dignity, a multi-year interdisciplinary performance arts project.
This one-night-only event will take place Saturday, Sept. 6, 2025 at Dance Mission Theater at 3316 24th St. and marks the official release of a CD album and printed community songbook. The songs were written collectively from 2018-2022 by domestic workers and day laborers from the Mission, several of whom have now passed away. This concert will also honor their lives and legacies.
In a time of erasure, Raíces y Voces reclaims space for immigrant laborers as cultural creators, artists, and visionaries. The performance is the culmination of trauma-informed workshops, somatic healing, and collaborative songwriting led by and for immigrant communities. This is not just a concert—it’s a cultural offering, a political act, and a celebration of survival.
“These are the songs of our lives—written by workers, for the world to hear. It’s time we listen,” said Francisco Herrera, co-director of Nuevo Sol Day Labor and Domestic Worker Center.
