Don't Back Down
The Cartoon Art Museum welcomes legendary comics creator and “herstorian” Trina Robbins and special guest writers and artists Jessica Balboni, Peri Barry, Emily Bowen Cohen, Dani Colman, Steve Leialoha, and Lee Marrs for a presentation of the recent graphic anthology Won’t Back Down! The event takes place on Sunday, February 25th at 4 pm in the museum’s galleries, followed by a book signing until 6 pm. This Toon Talk is a free event and open to the public.
About Won’t Back Down!
In 1973, the U.S. Supreme Court gave women the right to make decisions over the care of their own bodies in the landmark case Roe v. Wade. In 2023, the court reversed its ruling. Today, over 32 states have banned or severely restricted abortion access putting the health of women at risk. Comics creator Trina Robbins enlisted more than 30 artists, writers, inkers, and colorists from around the world to produce the pro-choice comics anthology Won’t Back Down! to draw attention and awareness of the issue. Contributors include Kate Charlesworth, Janice Chiang, Emily Bowen Cohen, Gene Ha, Steve Leialoha, Lee Marrs, Tom Orzechowski, Alice Sampson, Robert Triptow, and Signe Wilkinson. Profits from the book will be donated to Planned Parenthood.
