Run for a Cure: Jack McGovern Coats’ Disease Foundation Cure Coats' 5K Empowers Families Affected by Rare Eye Disease!
The Jack McGovern Coats’ Disease Foundation is thrilled to announce a new location for the return of the annual Cure Coats’ 5K Run/Walk, happening June 21, 2025, at Golden Gate Park in San Francisco. Media outlets are invited to cover the event in person and help spread awareness of this vital cause.
This year’s 5K features both In-Person and Virtual participation options, making it accessible to supporters everywhere. Whether you walk, run, dance, bike, or even golf your way to 5K, every step supports the Foundation’s mission to find a cure for Coats’ Disease, a rare eye disease that causes leakage of fluids in the eye that can lead to retinal detachment, vision loss, blindness, and sometimes even the loss of the eye. The majority of patients are diagnosed as children, and often too late for early intervention to prevent vision loss. Currently, there is no cure.
Event Highlights:
• In-Person 5K: Saturday, June 21, 2025
o Location: Golden Gate Park, Meadow near Pioneer Log Cabin and Blue Heron Lake
o Time: Race begins at 9:00 a.m.; Registration begins at 8:00 a.m.
o All participants receive a commemorative t-shirt and wristband
• Virtual 5K: June 21-28, 2025
o Participants choose their own activity and location
o Perfect for those who want to support the cause from anywhere in the world
Now in its 8th year, the Cure Coats’ 5K brings together patients, families, doctors, and advocates dedicated to defeating Coats’ Disease. This rare retinal disease primarily afflicts infants and children; 75% of patients are male. There is no known cause of this devastating disease. All proceeds benefit the Jack McGovern Coats’ Disease Foundation, which funds critical research, raises awareness, and provides resources for affected families.
