After my disastrous first year in San Antonio back in 1984, I swore I would leave and never come back. Who could imagine I would choose to live in San Antonio for almost a quarter of a century!? What made me do so? Mi vida rosa among eccentrics who made San Antonio a hothouse of creativity for a time. This is not only their undocumented history, it is mine.
This talk is free and open to the public. Doors open at 6 p.m. General Admission. Please register for this event.
About the Madrid Fund for Latina/o Artists
The Madrid Lecture is named after Arturo Madrid, T. Frank and Norene R. Murchison Distinguished Professor of the Humanities, Emeritus at Trinity University (1993-2016). The purpose of the lecture is to provide Trinity University and its surrounding communities with a platform featuring a rich array of Latina/o artists, who are the product of the long-lived and complex cultural heritage and historical experience of the multiple Latina/o communities of the U.S. Their artistic production serves as catchments of memory, markers of beliefs, hopes and dreams, and reminders of the range and depth of human emotion.
The lecture is underwritten by the Madrid Fund for Latina/o Arts, which was established by a grant to Trinity University by the Belo Corporation in honor of Madrid's service on its Board of Directors (1994-2004) and augmented by contributions from Arturo Madrid and spouse Antonia I. Castaneda.
