New Braunfels Area Quilt Guild presents the story of feed sacks

Feed Sacks: The Colorful History of a Frugal Fabric: Based on Lonzee Kull McCray’s book of the same name, Linzee will share the story of feed sacks. Her interest in cotton commodity bags is three-fold: Like many quilters, she loves the thousands of patterns that reflect fashion and design from the late 1930s through the early 1960s. But she is also fascinated by the way feed sack salesmanship exemplifies some of the earliest marketing efforts directed at women. Finally, Linzee has the greatest respect for the women themselves—they were resilient, resourceful, extraordinarily busy, and yet still took the time to create something beautiful for their families and homes. Linzee will discuss all those aspects in her talk, which is accompanied by a PowerPoint presentation. Also joining Linzee is Keva Boardman from the Sophienburg Museum adding in New Braunfels own rich feed sack history and will display some of the quilts made from feed sacks from local mills.
