9th Grade Re-Launch

High school is full of new opportunities, but it also comes with new responsibilities, bigger expectations, and plenty of unknowns. The transition from middle school to high school can feel overwhelming, which is why the Mill Street Youth Center created the 9th Grade Re-Launch—a free, engaging event designed to help incoming freshmen begin the school year feeling prepared, connected, and confident. Throughout this interactive experience, students will explore what it takes to succeed during their first year of high school through a variety of hands-on activities, group discussions, and team-building challenges. They'll learn practical strategies for staying organized, managing a more demanding class schedule, balancing extracurricular activities, setting personal goals, and developing healthy habits that support both academic success and personal well-being. Students will also have the opportunity to build friendships with other incoming freshmen, ask questions, and hear encouragement from mentors and Mill Street staff who understand the challenges and opportunities that come with starting high school. The event is designed to create a welcoming environment where students can gain confidence, practice important life skills, and realize they are not navigating this transition alone. In addition to preparing students for life on campus, the event introduces participants to the Mill Street Youth Center and the many free programs available throughout the school year. Students will learn about academic tutoring, enrichment classes, wellness programming, career exploration opportunities, recreation, volunteer experiences, and leadership opportunities that can help them stay engaged, discover new interests, and continue growing beyond the classroom. Whether a student is already looking forward to freshman year or feeling uncertain about what's ahead, the 9th Grade Re-Launch provides a supportive space to ask questions, meet new people, and gain valuable tools before the first day of school. By investing just one day before classes begin, students can walk into high school with greater confidence, practical strategies for success, and a strong support system already in place.
