The Women's Lecture Series at La Cantera Resort & Spa

What: The Women’s Lecture series is the brainchild of Camila Frederico, general manager, La Cantera Resort & Spa. The quarterly programs are designed to spotlight enterprising women making a difference across all genres including art, fashion, sports, business, politics, medicine, science and more. The inaugural lecture in the series is Women & Wellness, 4 to 5 p.m., Thursday, May 9, in La Sierra at SweetFire Kitchen. Tickets are $20, with a portion of proceeds benefiting UTSA College for Health, Community and Policy. To purchase tickets, visit www.lacanteraresort.com/things-to-do/adult-activities/women-series/. Keynote Joan Childs, renowned author and wellness expert, will discuss the mind-body connection and the transformative power of self-care as she tackles mental health. She’ll explore how emotional baggage impedes functional mental health and often manifests as stress, which, if sustained over time, attributes to 80 percent of all diseases. Childs has shared her insights and strategies to help audiences effect positive change on national network shows that include Oprah, Sally Jessy Raphael, Maury Povich, Montel Williams, Ricki Lake, Gordon Elliott, as well as with numerous audiences as consultant to many corporations, hospitals, universities and academic institutions in her home state of Florida and cities throughout the U.S. Nancy Cheak-Zamora, MA, PhD, Chair of the Department of Public Health for UTSA College for Health, Community and Policy will moderate the interactive question and answer portion of the program. “The series is constructed to be interactive, thought provoking, empowering and inspiring. It’s an opportunity to network, learn and connect with other forward-thinking women,” says Frederico.
