Women & Art is the second event in the Women’s Lecture series designed to spotlight enterprising women making a difference across all genres including fashion, sports, business, politics, medicine, science and more. The works of five local women artists presented by AnArte Gallery, will be for sale at the event from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, September 14, in the resort’s lobby area.
Tickets are $20, with a portion of ticket proceeds benefiting Christy’s Hope. To purchase tickets, visit
www.lacanteraresort.com/things-to-do/adult-activities/women-series/.
In addition to showing their pieces, each artist will be on hand to discuss their work with interested attendees. “We are very honored to have this opportunity,”
says Ana Montoya, founder and owner of AnArte. “It is so important to support and promote the arts in San Antonio and when we can do that while collaborating
with a local non-profit, even better.”
Additionally, a jazz trio will provide live music, while guests are treated to bubbles and small bites.
ARTISTS:
Ana Hernandez –Fractured images of femininity, pop culture and regional icons populate Ana Hernandez’s paintings. Her art is informed by her experience as a first-generation American and mother in contemporary culture.
Lucy Peveto – An artist and former attorney, Peveto uses her art to demonstrate how lives can be altered. The butterfly is her personal symbolism for that transformation and represents the connection between creativity, emotion and spirituality. Some of her pieces are on permanent display at La Cantera Resort & Spa.
Isabella Lopez-Kotara – An acrylic and mixed media painter, Isabella has always used painting as a conduit for capturing her perceptions of the world. Her current pieces isolate movements of nature, time and our own vulnerabilities, intentionally avoiding recognizable form to allow for individual interpretation.
Jessica Collins – A former lawyer and self-taught contemporary artist, Jessica uses an assembly of jewel- toned dressings graced by heavily textured acrylics, mediums, stones and gold leaf. Born and raised in McAllen, TX, Collins currently lives in San Antonio.
Taylor Lane – A mixed media artist who favors acrylic, oil and spray paint, Taylor is inspired by Texas imagery and vibrant colors. She uses her trials, traumas and triumphs as inspiration for her art, sharing the beauty that can bloom from times of darkness.
