Devil at the Crossroads
Jump-Start Performance Co. announces this season’s INKubator artist Fred Himes and his new work, Devil at the Crossroads – Storytelling in Blues. Himes unveils a classic Robert Johnson folktale as told by Virgil T. Honeybone, an imaginary and unreliable blues musician and Johnson rival.
Himes has fashioned Devil at the Crossroads from a fusion of original blues music, animation and storytelling. Roland de la Cruz and odie. Wayne Cole join him onstage, contributing live music and the soundscape. “An atmospheric moment,” describes its creator. “This adaptation of Devil at the Crossroads is supernatural, spooky, and spellbinding. If you can truly groove, it will impart its blues mojo on you.”
INKubator is a Jump-Start program in which the company invites a San Antonio artist or arts collective to create original performance work, offering support in the form of a rehearsal and performance space, technical assistance, a modest stipend and the Critical Response Process.
