The Westside Preservation Alliance, the Mexican American Civil Rights Institute, and the Esperanza Peace & Justice Center invite you to a presentation by Dr. Lydia R. Otero on their recent memoir L.A. Interchanges: A Brown & Queer Archival Memoir. The event is taking place on Saturday, January 27, 2024 at the Esperanza Peace and Justice Center, 922 San Pedro Ave. with refreshments at 5:30 PM and the talk beginning at 6:00 PM. Book Signing to follow the program with books available for purchase.
The plática, with Dr. Otero centers the story of a Queer Latine living in Los Angeles, CA in the late 1970s and mid 1980s. Through their* personal archive, Otero is able to write an important part of U.S. history that is absent in the larger historical narrative. Otero acknowledges that unless we write our history and in Otero’s case, publish our books as well, our Queer, Brown, Black, Asian, Arab and Native American histories will continue to be invisible to the rest of the world.
