BeatrÃz Llamas was a world renowned ranchera singer who was highly regarded for her contribution to Tejano music. She was the first Tejana to sing at Madison Square Garden and was inducted into the Tejano Music Hall of Fame in 1995. Late in life, BeatrÃz came out of retirement to join the beloved musical quartet known as Las Tesoros de San Antonio brought together by the Esperanza Peace and Justice Center.
LLamas built and nurtured her early career as a participant and winner in amateur singing contests at local teatros such as the Alameda, Nacional, and Zargoza. To honor those roots of the talent competitions, we are presenting this homenaje. The event will begin with an evening female vocal competition open to the public. Following the competition, there will be a performance by Mariachi Chapultepec de Arturo Lopez Jr. To close out, the winners will be announced and awarded.
John Lopez, son of BeatrÃz, will emcee.
