In Honor of World Water Day 2024 Cochineala: A Creative Confluence Festival of Nature and Art Focuse
Come get your glow on at Cochineala: A Creative Confluence Festival! Get in the swing of spring at this exciting performance series at Confluence Park that blends art, science, music, dance and interactive experiences with a deeper awareness of the four seasons and our community's connections to the natural world. With a focus on bioluminescence we will explore the living organisms that produce and emit light.
Inspired by the mystical cochineal, a small insect that lives on prickly pear cactus and is the ancient, much-prized natural source for vibrant, scarlet red dye, San Antonio’s Cochineala series utilizes art as a medium for exploring scientific endeavors through the creative lens of local artists and musicians. Set against the beautiful backdrop of the San Antonio River, Confluence Park serves as the jaw-dropping main stage for a lively blend of live music, dance, storytelling, poetry, screen printing and interactive, creative activities.
It will be a night to remember! Experience glow-in-the-dark painting. Explore a mushroom trail and fantastic fungi. Witness an electrifying illuminated Firefly Dance performance by Urban-15. Groove to the world beat music of Rudi + the Rudiments. Listen to fascinating stories spun by master storyteller, Emma Ortega. Create your own poetry and learn about the City Nature Challenge and iNaturalist: Exploring Nature for Science, Self-education and Fun. And -- it's all FREE and open to the public.
