Kinney is a renowned translator of the poetry of Catholic saint and Doctor of the Church St. Thérèse of Lisieux from her native French to English.On translating St. Thérèse's work, he writes, "The poetry of St. Thérèse, so simple, fresh, and pure, is particularly challenging to render into another language. But I have wanted to take this risk because her poetry reveals wonderful new aspects of her life and thought, which English-speaking readers might otherwise miss."
