Join us for for FREE interactive activities and workshops for people of all ages centering around sustainability and reducing our carbon footprint. Grab a Nature Passport and start exploring. This guide will help you navigate the event and explore all that Nature Day has to offer. Complete the passport for a prize! Learn about how to create biodiversity at home with Rachel Davis, UC Davis Arboretum and Public Garden. Exhibits & Workshops: Pollinator Garden Tour - The HIVE is a five-year development created to educate the public on honey, bees, and pollination. In a scheduled guided walk, explore the 2 acres of our pollinator gardens. Discover how you can create a pollinator oasis in your own backyard. All levels of gardening expertise welcomed! Uncle Jer’s Bee Show - Uncle Jer’s Bee Show is a fun and interactive show discussing bees in history, pollination, honey production, honey harvesting, reproduction, bee safety, physical aspects of bees and the health benefits of honey. Meet puppets Henrietta the New Bee and Beatrice the Older Sister Bee. Watch live bees in action with the observation bee hive. Miridae Mobile Nursery - Container Gardening with Natives (first come first serve basis with purchase of plant) Miridae Living Labs - Play with seed bombs, bugs, and plants with Miridae Living Labs! Story Reading & Tree of Life Activity with Tuleyome - Tuleyome is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit conservation organization based in Woodland, California. The word “Tuleyome” (pronounced too-lee-OME-ee) is a Lake Miwok Indian word that means “deep home place”. And that term “deep home place” exemplifies our deep connection to our environment, our communities and our regional public lands. Discover the World of Stingless Bees! - Jean-Philippe Marelli, owner of Arimubee, will introduce you to the diversity of stingless bees (Melipona), their hive and how the colony is organized. Taste Melipona honey from his Brazillian hives. Profits from Melipona honey sales will go towards his Master beekeeper capstone project which deals with rescuing and rearing Plebeia bees, the only Brazilian stingless bee species that was introduced in California in the 50’s and that is still present in the Palo Alto area! Our Promise to The Earth The environment is important to us. Our goal is to create a completely sustainable event by fostering a culture of environmentalism and diverting waste from landfills. All of our disposables are completely compostable or reusable. How you can help: Sort your waste accordingly with our 3-bin system. Bring your own water bottle to refill at our water station. Biking is also encouraged-we have designated parking for bikes.
