Live@DCC Second Friday Free noon concerts present the Light Opera Theatre (LOTS) of Sacramento - June 12, noon - 1pm, at the Davis Community Church, 4th and "C" Streets, Davis.
Members of the Light Opera Theatre of Sacramento will perform highlights from Gilbert & Sullivan’s many comic operas, including The Pirates of Penzance, H.M.S. Pinafore, The Mikado, and excerpts from other lighter works from recent seasons, including their recent production of Weill and Brecht’s The Threepenny Opera.
LOTS was founded in 1982 by Mike and Debbie Baad and Dolores Allen, building upon their extensive experience in regional theatre, including work with the Sacramento Opera and Davis Comic Opera. Originally formed as the St. Mary’s Players, a group of talented singers drawn from St. Mary’s Church Choir, the company debuted with a highly acclaimed production of H.M.S. Pinafore (1982). The following seasons brought equally successful performances of The Mikado (1983) and The Pirates of Penzance (1984), establishing the ensemble’s reputation for vibrant, high-quality operetta.
As audience and performer enthusiasm grew, the company expanded beyond its parish roots and, by its fourth season, became the Light Opera Theatre of Sacramento. LOTS soon relocated to the Coloma Community Center and, in 1989, found its permanent home at the 24th Street Theatre. Over more than four decades, LOTS has continued to captivate Sacramento audiences with engaging operetta and musical theatre productions. In recent years, the company has broadened its programming to include regional premieres and a wider range of musical styles, reflecting both artistic innovation and a deep commitment to serving the region’s diverse cultural community.
