It is a spatial symphony performed outdoors by several groups of musicians (professional, student, amateur, and everything in between) for whom Lisa Bielawa, Eastman’s ’25-’26 Howard Hanson Visiting Professor, writes bespoke music. Each group begins to sing and play together, before expanding outwards– literally “broadly casting” themselves, their sounds, and their words. Two outdoor performances of 30 minutes each will take place on Parcel 5 on April 18 at 12:00 and 2:00 p.m., with a rain date of April 19th at those same times.
Want to participate in Broadcast? Join our pick-up chorus by visiting the Eastman School of Music's Events Calendar and clicking on the link within the Rochester Broadcast listing. The chorus will be led by Lee Wright, Director of Choirs at the University of Rochester. Participating singers will learn the music on their own, with the help of a special online learning aid designed by Lisa (also located within the Rochester Broadcast listing). The music is designed for singers of all ages and abilities! There will be one in-person rehearsal, on April 12th, from 3:00 p.m.- 5:30 p.m., in the Ray Wright Room at the Eastman School (26 Gibbs Street). This will include a walk-through of Parcel 5, the performance location. Please note that the chorus will move from location to location during the performance.
Tickets are not required for this event.
