Trifactor, an evening of story-driven, surreal and outrageous dance-theater will premiere November 30 through December 2 at MuCCC. Tickets are $12 in advance at www.muccc.org, $15 at the door, and $10 for students and seniors. All shows are at 8 pm. The program features work by Hanlon Dance + Company, Laurie MacFarlane, and Ruben T Ornelas.
In MacFarlane’s “It was a normal day,” four performers offer a humorous and hair-raising look at the unexpected challenges of daily life. In “Character Study of Baba Yaga,” movement, costume and props are used to create a vivid portrait of the notorious fairytale witch.
Ornelas presents a playful solo for Angela Lopez, set to “Suite en Re,” by Guatemalan composer Ricardo Castillo, and a new dance-theater work. This piece is set to poems by contemporary Mexican-American poet José Olivarez, and explores the absurdities of a life lived betwixt and between cultures.
Hanlon Dance + Company will premiere a new series of work, “Beacons of Light” and “The Light within Us,” that explores the human capacity for deep connection and transcendence into vessels of energy and light.
Performers include Nanako Horikawa Mandrino, Angela Lopez, Alaina Olivieri, Julie Schlafer Rosette, Donetta Tchoroleev, Hanlon and Ornelas.
Eran Hanlon’s choreography has been featured in New York City and Beijing, and in 2014 he was recognized by City Newspaper as Best New Choreographer at the Rochester Fringe Festival. His award-winning video creations have screened at national and international film festivals. As a collective of diverse dance artists, Hanlon Dance + Company incorporates dance theater, modern dance, performance art, and various forms of multimedia into live performance.
Laurie MacFarlane has presented her work in a variety of settings, from the proscenium stage to art galleries, sidewalks, and storefronts, throughout the US, in Toronto, Canada and Puebla, Mexico. She is an Artist in Residence at MuCCC, and in 2022 was awarded a NYS Choreographers Initiative Grant from the NYS DanceForce, a NYSCA Partner.
Ruben T. Ornelas has presented his work in the Americas and East Africa. He has been a Fulbright Specialist to Mexico and Guatemala and an Artist in Residence at the National Hispanic Cultural Center in New Mexico. He is currently a recipient of a Creatives Rebuild NY grant, working in the GLOW Creatives collaborative with nine other artists and three regional arts councils to bring arts programming to primarily rural areas of Western NY.
Ornelas’ work is made possible with funds from the Support for Artists Grant, a program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of The Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature.
Trifactor is made possible with funds from the Statewide Community Regrants Program, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of The Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature and administered by the Genesee Valley Council on the Arts.
