Publick Musick: Echos of the Renaissance

The use of double choirs—two (or more) ensembles of instruments or voices trading musical material antiphonally—was popular in northern Italy in the late 1500s and early 1600s. In this program the MAG organ itself will be one of the choirs, juxtaposed with a string ensemble, letting the audience enjoy the full palette of sounds of Eastman's Italian Baroque Organ. Complementing these rich sounds of the late Renaissance will be sonatas for strings and basso continuo by groundbreaking composers active around the same time, who created the music that ushered in a new era, the Baroque. Performers: Boel Gidholm, baroque violin Mary Riccardi, baroque violin James Marshall, baroque viola Christopher Haritatos, baroque cello Naomi Gregory, organ Deborah Fox, theorbo On the series of Third Thursday Concerts with Eastman’s Italian Baroque Organ Free with Gallery admission, which is half-price after 5:00 on Thursdays, and free to U. of R. ID holders and MAG members Limited seating!
