Action for a Better Community, Inc. (ABC) is excited to announce its upcoming Community Action Month Celebration and Community Resource Event, scheduled for Saturday, May 18th at MLK Jr. Park in downtown Rochester from 10 am to 4 pm, in honor of Community Action Month. Community Action Month, celebrated nationwide in May, recognizes the vital role of Community Action in combating poverty and fostering economic mobility. ABC, as the federally designated Community Action Agency (CAA) for Monroe and Ontario Counties since 1965, has been at the forefront of this mission, leveraging $1.7 million in federal funds to bring over $25 million in additional resources to the community. The event marks the second year of ABC's community celebration, inviting families to join staff and volunteers in commemorating community partnerships and collaborative efforts in anti-poverty work. "ABC is proud to be part of a national network of Community Action Agencies," said Jerome Underwood, President & CEO of ABC. "But we also know that our community still has much more work to do to make economic security a reality for every family." A highlight of the event will be the "Greenlining Village," featuring local banks, mortgage lenders, realtors, and housing providers promoting homeownership in historically excluded communities. ESL, M&T Bank, Five Star Bank, KeyBank, and JP Morgan Chase are among the sponsors supporting this initiative. Rochester Mayor Malik Evans and Monroe County Executive Adam Bello will kick off the festivities at 10 am, followed by a program of speakers and entertainment, including a line dancing group and a step team. Attendees can also enjoy meal tickets for the first 1,000 guests, generously provided by Zweigle’s and Foodlink, along with community-provider tables, raffles, prizes, food trucks, and activities for children.
