After School Art Experience: RepousseĢ
During this series of classes, students will learn about the background and history of repousseĢ (embossing). The seven Elements of Design (line, shape, form, value, space, color, and texture) will be reviewed. The differences between abstract and representational design will be discussed. Melissa will demonstrate techniques and tools. Students will practice using tools for embossing/chasing on sample metal pieces.
Students will create thumbnail sketches for their projects, choose their favorite sketch, and compose their embossing square. Students ātraceā their design onto the metal using tools. They will then work their design by embossing and chasing, playing with the relief aspect of the metal.
After the embossed square is completed, black acrylic paint can be applied and wiped off the embossed metal for definition of the designs. If time allows, the embossed design can be āextendedā in a colored pencil drawing onto mat board for display.
