TYKEs (Theatre Young Kids Enjoy) kicks off the new year with the musical adventure, Dot Dot Dot: A New Musical. The production is based on the Creatrilogy trio of award-winning picture books by New York Times bestselling author Peter H. Reynolds: The Dot, Ish and Sky Color. Live on stage at the JCC in Brighton for one weekend only, performances take place at 11am and 2pm on Saturday and Sunday, January 27 and 28. Tickets and more information are available at tykestheatre.org. Tickets cost $20 ($18 for JCC members). The JCC is located at 1200 Edgewood Avenue. Adapted by composers Keelay Gipson and Sam Salmond, the musical, like the series, celebrates the power of original thinking, self-expression, and looking beyond the expected. When Marisol (Sky Color), a young artist and curator of the Musee de Marisol, decides that her gallery requires more than her own art, her search for emerging talent leads her to Vashti (The Dot), whose dots inspire Ramon (Ish) to become an artist in his own right. The musical follows Marisol's journey to help her new friends and her entire community break free from self-criticism and learn to let their imaginations soar.
Author Peter Reynolds explains, "Much of my work is designed to inspire all of us to navigate our true potential – to be brave, original, inspirational, inspired, and active." TYKEs' founder and director Freyda Schneider adds, "Having worked in children's theatre for decades, I read a lot of children's books. This Creatrilogy series of books is perhaps the single most inspiring and meaningful collection I've ever encountered in my career. Incorporating all three of these brilliant and powerful books into one hour-long live production is nothing short of mesmerizing. The messages about self-confidence and having the courage to be yourself are so crucial for kids on the journey of self-discovery."
Dot Dot Dot is designed for kids ages five and up. TYKEs’ 19th season continues March 9 to 17 with The Perfect Dog, a heartwarming musical about perfectionism, acceptance and friendship.
TYKEs’ productions feature adult professional actors who combine on-stage entertainment with educational messages and life lessons. TYKEs consistently ranks as the #1 Children’s Theatre Company in Rochester by KidsOutandAbout.com, and one of the top places in all of Rochester to bring kids – for the 13th consecutive year.
