TYKEs' Press Here bounces to life on stage TYKEs (Theatre Young Kids Enjoy) sets the stage for the exuberant musical Press Here, based on the longest-running picture book on the New York Times bestseller list. Appropriate for kids ages three and up, performances take place at the JCC Hart Theater, 1200 Edgewood Avenue in Brighton on: Saturday, January 11 at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Sunday, January 12 at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 18 at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Sunday, January 19 at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Tickets cost $22 ($20 for JCC members) and are available at tykestheatre.org. The story of the same name by Hervé Tullet inspires young readers to use their imaginations to control the movement of colorful dots on the various pages throughout the book. TYKEs' unique musical production cleverly expands on that concept by engaging audience members to take various actions – clapping, pressing buttons, and even stepping right up on stage – in order to propel the story forward. Mischievous red, yellow and blue dots come to life, creating zany and kid-appropriate mayhem, as vaudeville-style clowns Turner and Page prepare for the grand opening of the “Mom and Pop Dot Shop.” Created by award-winning playwright and composer Austin Zumbro along with actor/juggler Andrew P. Quick, this on-stage adaptation expands upon the simple brilliance of Tullet’s book. Tullet is known internationally for his prodigious versatility – including designing fabric for Hermès and directing ad campaigns – in addition to publishing dozens of books including the New York Times bestsellers Mix It Up!, Let's Play!, and Say Zoop! TYKEs’ founder Freyda Schneider explains, “An essential message of Press Here is that you don’t have to be perfect – you can keep trying and get better and better at something new. It’s the live theatre embodiment of the glory of a do-over!
