This recital spotlights the interplay of language and music that is the art song, focusing on historically marginalized artists. The program features poems by women writers Emily Dickinson, Maya Angelou, and Edna St. Vincent Millay set to music by American composers Aaron Copland, Margaret Bonds, B. E. Boykin, and Justin Wallace. It also includes songs by Mary Turner Salter, a recently rediscovered composer who set her own poems.
